PANELISTS

DR. MARION OWEN, MD

Marion will discuss how each women's physiology: intestinal function, underlying adrenal and thyroid gland health, body type, stress level, level of toxicity, and level of inflammation effect her hormone levels and her experience of peri-menopause.  She considers all of these to develop a personalized plan to ease discomfort and, more essentially, maximize long term health.

Marion K Owen, MD has a private practice in Decatur that provides family care and personalized solutions to medical problems.  She received her medical training at UNC-Chapel Hill and completed residency at Emory University. Continuing medical training is with The institute for Functional Medicine and she begins a fellowship program with them this summer.  She can be reached at Whole Family Medicine, 404-377-9010, www.wholefamilymed.com

PATRICIA KYRITSI HOWELL, Registered Herbalist (American Herbalists Guild)

Patricia will talk about how herbs support endocrine function, relieve symptoms associated with menopause (insomnia, mood swings, hot flashes, heavy menses, etc) and provide the foundation for a long, healthy life.

Patricia has over 17 years experience as a practicing medical herbalist with offices in Decatur and Clayton, Georgia. A professional member of the American Herbalists Guild since 1995, she is the author of "Medicinal Plants of the Southern Appalachians" and the founder and director of the BotanoLogos School for Herbal Studies, the only school for herbal medicine in Georgia.

She will discuss the ways acupuncture supports physiologically normal, though sometimes troublesome, changes that accompany this life transition as well as symptom management and amelioration.

Kimberly has over 20 years experience integrating Eastern and Western approaches to healthcare, with a primary focus on women's health.  Kimberly founded the Intown Acupuncture Center, located in Decatur, in 2001.  Kimberly combines her experience as a registered nurse and a licensed acupuncturist in her work which specializes in the treatment of hormone related issues for women.

VIRGINIA DUPRE, LPC and Registered Art Therapist

Virginia specializes in work with work with women in her private art therapy practice in Decatur.  In her work with women, she saw the need to provide a time/place for learning about and dialoguing about women and hormones.  She will facilitate the panel discussion.  She can be reached at 404-272-3890 and/or through arttherapyatlanta.com.

About Charis Circle and Charis Books & More:

For 35 years Charis Books & More, the oldest and largest feminist bookstore in the South, has played host to legendary programs and events.   In 1996, we created a separate non-profit, Charis Circle, to continue and expand our program offerings. Together, Charis Books and Charis Circle create a forum for free thought, independent voices, and unique expression. As a non-profit, Charis Circle is funded mainly through individual giving efforts and foundation gifts. Charis Circle rents space from Charis Books and More to house our office, as well as to hold our programs and provide the only community feminist space in Atlanta that is open to the public 7 days a week. Charis Books & More is a for-profit, independent business that is funded through book sales.
